The Arizona Mountaineering Club was founded in 1961 for the purpose of promoting and teaching safe rock climbing. Today, the AMC has over 500 members who are involved in all aspects of rock climbing, mountaineering and various other outdoor sports. AMC members range from the occasional weekend climber to those who attempt the highest mountains around the world. If you don't know how to climb, the AMC offers beginning classes with an emphasis on safety and self-rescue. Also offered by the AMC are classes in anchors/ropework and lead climbing. If you already have climbing experience, join other members on some of our monthly outings - a great way to meet new friends and discover new climbing areas. Our Land Advocacy Committee works on issues related to maintaining and improving access to climbing areas. Please see our *Statement of Opposition - Queen Creek* for our efforts and opinions against the Land Exchange and saving Oak Flat. The AMC meets the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Phoenix Country Day School, 3901 E. Stanford (one light north of Camelback at 32th Street) then turn right on Stanford. Dues are $30 per calendar year for a single membership and $35 per calendar year for a family membership. AMC monthly meetings provide another great way to meet other climbers. After a short business meeting, a program is presented to the members. Programs rangefrom slide shows by famous and not-so-famous climbers to rock climbing videos and everything in between. The AMC library is stocked with numerous climbing books, magazines and videos. These materials are available free of charge to members at the club meetings.
Climbing is a personal choice and requires personal responsibility. Climbing and associated activities are dangerous and can result in injury and/or death. Climbing exposes you to risks. Risks are not eliminated by training, or skill. By your participation in any AMC activity or event, you accept and assume any and all risks, including those created by negligence, connected to such activity or event. |
